What makes a brand CREDIBLE?
Step THREE: Start with Smart
In our last two editions, we talked about “brand authenticity” and “brand relevancy.” The next step is to ensure that your brand is credible.

There is no substitute for intelligence. No matter what the economy looks like, there will always be a market for quality talent and smart people.

One of the most important factors in solidifying your brand is establishing your credibility.  Others need to know that you know what you are doing.  When you establish credibility, you also begin to create trust.  A trusted brand is a brand properly positioned for growth.  Why?  People do business with people they like, know, and trust.  Consumers buy brands that they trust.  Employers promote employees that they trust.

When people trust brand Y-O-U, they not only support you, they refer you.  And, the willingness for others to refer, recommend, and advocate for you is the true test of whether your brand is credible.

We will talk about critical strategies for establishing credibility at ME University: The Ultimate Business and Branding Bootcamp.  Have You Registered?

Thanks for allowing me the opportunity to speak on the timely topic of Reinventing Yourself at your April Networking Event at the W Hotel. As you know, these are challenging times for sales professionals. In fact, sales representatives feel more pressure now to produce than ever to save their jobs and protect their income. However, you should relax because opportunity is all around. Don’t discount your unique ability and experience as a sales expert because companies need you more than ever. However, you must reinvent yourself to take advantage of these new opportunities. Here are three tips on how to do this:

 1) Do (Work) What You Love

Research shows that individuals who do what they love by working in a field that they are passionate about actually out-earn individuals who simply follow the money. Why? Doing what you love ignites 100% of you and that always translates into more productivity, authenticity and revenue. Hence, this is the best time to combine your passion with your work to make yourself more money. For example, if you love art, why not sell it? After all, who do you think can sell more artwork…YOU or the artist? Exactly!

2) Make Yourself Irreplaceable By Becoming An Asset

One way to avoid a layoff is to make yourself irreplaceable. The best way to do this is to become more of an asset to the company. Specifically, find ways the company can best utilize you to improve revenue for the entire company. For example, if you are a top performer, suggest that upper management utilize you as a sales trainer. This way, your highly advanced and very profitable sales skills can be replicated across the entire sales force. This is not the time to simply ask what your company can do for you. Instead, sell them on what you can do for them. Help yourself and the company by being BOLD and selling your ability to help them through this downward economy. Don’t be surprised if you find yourself getting a raise because of the increased value you just added to the company’s bottom line.

3) Transform Yourself Into A Product

Have you ever stopped to think that you just might be a product? After all, don’t companies buy YOU to sell their products? Why not utilize to this to your advantage and sell yourself to other businesses that desperately need an adept sales professional? You could easily consult with restaurants, art galleries, authors, musicians, etc. (typically individuals who are less adept at selling themselves) on how to improve their sales via improved customer service, special events, developing an email list with auto-responders, more effective marketing, etc. The possibilities are endless. Remember, your personality and years of experience are what sell, so use them in every way imaginable to benefit their and your bottom line!

I enjoyed sharing my ideas on leadership at the National Sales Network Atlanta Chapter meeting last month.  I thought the event was terrific and the audience was great.  They were very professional, very knowledgeable and engaging.  It was obvious that this group was sincerely interested in discovering ways to improve their leadership capabilities and become better people.  Their theme of strong personal development is definitely a path that could lead them up the corporate ladder.

NSN is a great organization that is committed to helping professionals succeed in the business world.  I was very impressed with the event and hope that I am invited back next year or able to attend other NSN leadership events across the country.

For those of you who were unable to attend the event, my new book is available for sale at or by clicking this link:

Thank you for the opportunity.
